Kindness, Technique, and FUN—Every Stroke of the Way!
Sun Oaks Stingrays
We are a year-round USA-Registered Swim Team. Our motto is, “Kindness – Technique – FUN!!” We practice Monday-Thursday at Sun Oaks in the covered pool, with options to attend 2-4 times per week. Our team attends swim meets monthly in the Spring/Summer & every other month in the Fall/Winter. Swim meets are OPTIONAL. If your child simply loves to swim and is not looking to compete – our team is a welcoming place for all swimmers to grow. Our team is open to kids ages 5-18. If your child has goals to be on the swim team, our year-round swim school is a perfect place for them to learn strokes, prepare & build endurance.
Email Angie with questions or to set up an assessment or try out.

We’re here for you!
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions! Let’s make this a great experience for our kids!
What is expected of Parents?
- Be supportive of coaches. We care about your kids! If you have questions or concerns, please wait until the end of practice to talk to the coach.
- Please give the coaches and your kids space during practice.
- Parents are expected to take turns timing at swim meets. We will brief you on how to “time.”
- Swim meets are put on solely by volunteers and we can’t do it without you!
- We are looking for 2 parents to train as swim meet “officials.” If interested, please see Angie!
What are our mascot & team colors?
We are the Stingrays! Navy blue & white are our team colors.
Where do I buy swim equipment?
Team Store: swimoutlet.com/collections/sunoaksswimteam
Swimmers with long hair MUST wear a swim cap at practices. Team Caps are REQUIRED at swim meets for ALL swimmers. This helps us identify the kids on our team so we don’t miss any races. Team caps are sold poolside at practice and meets. See your coach!
What do I need to do if I want to attend meets?
Let your coaches know if you are interested in meets. We will recommend the type of swim meet that is best suited for each child.
Signing up for Meets (Optional)
Step 1
Register with USA-Swimming. Cost is $95 for Premium (annual fee). Go to https://omr.usaswimming.org/omr/welcome/3335FA9DEB144D to register. Our team code is SOST (Sun Oaks Swim Team) NOT SOAR. Choose “SN” (Sierra Nevada) as our LSC.
Step 2
Create an account on ome.swimconnection.com
You cannot set an account up on swimconnection until you are USA Registered.
Costs for Meets – What to Expect
- Coaches Fee is $25/day ($10/day per additional child).
- Every meet has a “splash fee” to enter ($10-$14)
- Then, each event you sign up for is an additional $4-6. These fees are charged by Swim Connection when you sign up. You can sign up for 1 event, or all the events offered at the meet. Before signing up, ask Coaches which events are best for your child.
Clinics
We host an instructional clinic the Friday before each swim meet, 4:00-5:30pm. If your child is attending, it is highly encouraged to attend. Coach will go over specifics of the meet as well as extra practice for your swimmer’s individual events. Cost is $10 members, $15 nonmember.

CLINIC Descriptions
Future Stars
Ages 5-10. Players will learn foundational tennis strokes through fun filled activities from enthusiastic instructors who are well versed in the modern game of tennis. Learning tennis specifics such as balance and hand eye coordination will establish correct patterns that will be helpful in tennis but also applicable to other sports.
Emerging Strikers
Ages 9-14. Players will be instructed in all strokes using progressions equipment and specic “tennis vocabulary”. This method is designed to help make advanced tennis strokes easy to learn. Players will learn scoring and basic strategies of play so they can ,move from hitting a tennis ball to game play. This is an ideal class for those interested in playing junior high school tennis and/or tournaments.
Competitive Development
Advanced middle school players and intermediate high school players will learn the skills and tactical knowledge they need to become successful varsity high school platers. Drills, game scenarios and specific instruction suited to individual styles will be the basis of these energetic and focused sessions.
Competitive Development +
Players in this level are committed, self-motivated, and actively competing in tournaments and match play. High intensity drills will improve match play strategy, mental skills, footwork, shot selection, tness and overall competitiveness. All players must be pre-approved by Head Tennis Pro, Steve Kinder, for this program.
Ascension
Our elite junior tennis team. The Ascension Project improves our community and our world by developing athletes into leaders. We do this in a process-first environment that cultivates the values of goal setting, accountability, gratitude and commitment in the context of work ethic and trust in toil.
