Matt, who hails from North Carolina, joined the Sun Oaks management team in August of 2011. Before coming to Redding, he developed his training background and philosophy through his experience in clinical research, coaching, and business marketing. This philosophy includes a focus on vision, progression, and fun in the training process.
Matt received his degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He continued his education and development in exercise and training with a personal training certification from the American College of Sports Medicine, corrective exercise specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Matt also works as the Head Trainer in the Athletic Dept; coaching and facilitating sport and athletic training programs. His expertise includes a Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a Level 1 Sport and Performance certification from the US Weightlifting Association.

Deborah, a former college athlete, has been a fitness instructor since 2015. A lover of all things fitness. Through her own journey in health and fitness she understand the challenges and importance of taking a holistic approach to exercise, diet and healthy lifestyle choices. There has never been a fitness challenge she hasn’t wanted to conquer or a person she isn’t inspired to help. She thrives on challenge and competition, and believes that, “anyone can accomplish anything with someone in their corner”. She believes in the strength of team and is ready to partner up with you to help you overcome your fitness challenges. She is a ACE certified personal trainer, has done certifications with Mossa, TRIBE, Les Mills, Stages Cycling, and TRX. Her hobbies include running, yoga, water sports, hiking, and connecting with people! Whether you are 8 or 88 she is ready to help you take your next step to be the healthiest you!
Taylor has lived in Redding for 5 years. She is a wife and mother of two. Taylor’s passion for health and fitness blossomed at a young age and has always been something she loved to pursue. Taylor always strives to love her best life, which led her to become an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer and an ISSA Certified Sports Nutrition Coach. Taylor’s heart and passion is to walk side by side with clients in their wellness journey to achieve and sustain their goals, whatever they maybe.
Chase Boontjer is a Redding Native. Although born in Denver Colorado, he and his family returned to California to be closer to his father’s family. As a homeschooled child, he was brought up in a conservative home with traditional values, and by age 8, he was developing into a hearty and athletic young boy.
Chase wrestled collegiately at Liberty University; attaining 3 All-American finishes, with a 3rd place best finish. He Led his team as captain for two years before stepping into coaching shoes and therein learned the art of tactful encouragement and drawing out the potential in his athletes.
While He was in VA, he married his high school crush, Rachel Parker, and she followed him to VA where they developed as a young couple. It was in this time that Chase developed his love of fitness and psychology, of which he majored while attending school. His passion is for small group fitness and creating programs that benefit the community.

A California native, Melissa has been a part of the Sun Oaks team since 2005. As a mother of 3 small children, Melissa understands juggling family, work, and a healthy lifestyle. Her passion for people and natural ability to connect led her to make her hobby a career, by becoming an AFFA certified Group Fitness Instructor in 2007 and a NASM certified Personal Trainer in 2015. With a focus on helping clients build a healthy lifestyle, Melissa challenges her clients to not only move their bodies but also find their purpose for change – their “why?” She is dedicated to helping people find sustainable fitness that moves beyond a gym and becomes a part of who they are.
Meet Christian Kay, an avid snowboarder with a passion for fitness. As a golf and senior fitness specialist, he can help most everyone correct form, increase performance, and reach their goals.
Christian loves to see his clients progress in all areas and towards their goals. He believes that “self-care is the best form of healthcare” and wants to see everyone live an abundantly joyful and adventurous life. Are you ready to make the positive changes to better your life? DeAna is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Nutrition Specialist. Family is extremely important to her and one of her biggest influences on keeping herself healthy. As a mother of 3, and a grandmother, she sees more reason than ever to keep her mind and body in good health. Being able to spend quality time and be physically active with her children is priceless!
As a stay at home mom, DeAna wasn’t always into fitness. She fell into a rut that many women do; experiencing poor body image and self-esteem issues. After trying several fad diets and bouncing from gym to gym, DeAna made the decision to change her life and stop letting herself down. Going on a mission, she changed the way she ate, the way she worked out, and most importantly, the way she thought.
After a few months, this new lifestyle turned into more than just weight-loss. The more results she achieved, the more she wanted, and the more her perspective changed. Ultimately, DeAna competed in a “Figure” competition; winning first place, and taking the overall champion trophy. This challenge proved what is possible, and now DeAna wants to share her passion and help draw it out of others.
Regardless of what your goals are; whether 5lbs or 150, whether 1 mile or a marathon, DeAna loves helping people achieve their goals and reach their potential. If you are ready to make a change, DeAna is ready to be your friend in fitness!
Rafael Lamarche is a passionate practitioner of all things fitness. He brings a diverse flavor and knowledge to his training, just like the places he has traveled and lived.
During his own personal 120 lb weight-loss journey, Rafael learned that courage instills perseverance, perseverance creates character, and character produces permanent change. As he says, “All change starts with courage.”
Part of his training style is to create opportunities for his clients to discover their own courage. Employing techniques he has added throughout his life, his clients find many opportunities, as Rafael is also a boxing coach and amateur bodybuilder.

Personal Trainer, Strengthening for Martial Arts & Weight Loss
David has always had a passion for exercise, including weightlifting, a black belt in Shotokan karate, and happy hour at Cattleman’s. With over twelve years of experience in personal and group training, he brings a unique blend of the conventional and unconventional, combined with a rich background in Martial Arts and the Armed Services.
In 2007, David personally took up training for triathlons. in addition to personal training, and small group training, he runs a popular triathlon training program here at Sun Oaks; including two “triathlite” races per year. David’s motto is “Do what you love/love what you do, and you will reach success.” It’s this attitude that he brings into every exercise and training session.
Tyler Robinson is a Competitive obstacle course racer and avid weightlifter. As a NASM certified personal trainer with a specialization in corrective exercise he can help you reach your goals and fix any imbalances you have. He believes that “consistency is key” when it comes to fitness and finding an activity that you like to do and will stick to is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Melissa Ahern spent her early childhood growing up in Alturas, CA, then moved to Palo Cedro in Junior High, and has spent the last 29 years enjoying her life in the greater Shasta County area.
She started her fitness journey 10 years ago; 80 lbs overweight and depressed. She took her first Zumba class hiding in the back, doing her best not to be noticed. Fast forward 6 months later and she was on stage leading it. Including her transformation with confidence, she took ownership of healthy eating, exercise, and proper stress management and got her life & weight under control.
Melissa’s philosophy on training is, “It’s not about being the best, it’s about being better than you were yesterday.” This comes out in her love for her clients as she helps them become active, stay active, and achieve a better quality of life.
When not at the gym teaching numerous Group Fitness classes and training, she enjoys hiking, camping, and rock hounding with her family.
If you’re looking for someone with an understanding of how to successfully achieve fitness goals, and will push you to be the best version of yourself, Melissa is your girl! Life is just easier when you’re fit!
In addition to a CPT through NASM, Melissa also holds certifications in Group Fitness, Zumba B1, B2, Aqua, Toning, Yoga, and several senior specific programs.
Nancy grew up in Santa Cruz, CA and then moved to San Francisco where she attended the California Culinary Academy. During her cooking career of 10 years, she began to teach indoor cycling. She has been teaching since 2004. She moved to Redding in 2010 and again, started teaching. She got her USA Triathlon Coaching Certification in 2011 and has been coaching since. She has successfully competed in and trained people in various distances from our own Sun Oaks Triathlite, to Spint, Olympic and Half Ironman distance races. She spends her free time with her daughter an husband, John.
